What a Marketing Manager does
A marketing manager is tasked with creating plans or programs that will spark interest in services or products. Their job requires them to work together with other professionals such as art directors and staff in charge of finances, to plan budgets, choose advertising media and discuss marketing plans.
They plan and manage giveaways, contests, coupons and other promotional campaigns. They assess and approve the layouts of websites where the ads will be featured. Marketing managers also do market research to gather information on customers and business opportunities. They provide clients with technical and marketing advice.
Types of marketing managers
• Advertising Managers: their work is in advertising agencies, media firms and organizations. They partner with sales teams to create advertising campaigns on behalf of the client.
• Promotions manager: they work towards an increase in the number of sales by running campaigns that feature advertising and purchasing incentives.
• Marketing Managers: they conduct research on the products and services that their organization and competitors offer and do an estimate of the demand for the products.
Steps to Careers in Marketing
• AMA’s Professional Certified Marketer (PCM®): it’s given by the American Marketing Association to individuals who’ve shown commitment to staying current in the field of marketing. Earning the certification shows you have high professional standards.
• CMMP® (Certified Marketing Management Professional) Designation: it’s awarded by the International Institute of Marketing Professionals (IIMP). It offers four levels of certification depending on experience. These are Associate CMMP, Manager CMMP, Executive CMMP and Chartered CMMP.

• Analytical skills: these will help them analyze market trends to create effective strategies for their organization.
• Communication skills: to share information and ideas with other members of their team, managers will require excellent communication skills. The same case applies to communication with consumers / customers.
